212011_14918_0.pngGradebook Overview

1.pngTeacher Comments.  When a teacher leaves a comment about student work or behavior it will show up in this area and pertains to this class only.

2.pngThe Website URL will be present if a teacher has a website with more information about their class, such as upcoming assignments, important information about assignments, class links or expectations.

3.pngFinal Grades. Grades that are listed in GREEN are FINAL GRADES.  Grades aren't final until they have been posted by teachers at given deadlines such as end of quarter/trimester, semester or year.

4.pngIn-Progress Grades.  Grades listed in YELLOW are ongoing or "In-Progress Grades".  These grades will flucuate throughout the quarter, especially early in the quarter, as teachers enter grades into the gradebook.  Please don't put much stock in the Semester and Final Grades listed in YELLOW.  A Semester Grade is made up of 2 Quarter Grades and an Exam grade, so viewing the "In-Progress" semester grade during a single quarter will not be a good indicator as to what that final semester grade will be.

5.pngAssignments.  This is the list of assignments (tests, quizzes, homework, participation, etc)  that make up the Quarter grade.  Clicking on the Name will take you to more info about the particular Assignment.

6.pngMany teachers (but not all) create categories for their assignments.  These categories vary among teachers.  In the example to the right you will see the totals highlighted in blue, and the breakdown of how the student is doing in each category.  You can quickly see from the example that the student is doing well but is struggling with InClass Assignments due to a 0 for an Incomplete assignment.  The student received an 87 as a final Q1 quarter grade (shown in green) which is broken down as follows:

Homework: 98 x 35% = 34
Tests/Quiz: 92 x 35% = 32
InClass: 69.4 x 30% = 21
Total:  87

7.pngThe Comments column will have data if a teacher chooses to enter info. This area will list comments a teacher has created for the student regarding the individual assignment.  Teachers also have the ability to mark assignments as Late, Missing, Dropped, Incomplete, Exempt, Cheated, or Turned In.  As a parent, you can run a missing assignment report in the reports area that will bring up missing assignments across all classes.

8.pngQuarter Details.  Grades are done by Quarters with Quarter 1 of the grading detail at the top of the page followed by Quarter 2 and so on down to Quarter 4.  Be sure to scroll down the page and look for the Term Quarter Grade Detail heading to get the correct grades for the current quarter.

9.pngGrade Multiplier.  As mentioned, not all teachers use groups when grading, some will use a multiplier. The default multiplier is 1, meaning the grade counts once in the grade calculations.  If you see a multiplier of 2 it means that the grade counts twice in the calculation.  This often happens for large assignments or tests.  For example, a student has 3 grades - a homework assignment, a quiz and a major test.  On the homework assignment the student received 90%, on the quiz - 80% and on the major test a 100%  - and the test has a multiplier of 2.  The grade is calculated as follows:
90 + 80 + 100 + 100 divided by 4 = 92.5%
Without the multiplier or the counting of the grade as 2 grades the student would have received a 90%.

111.pngTurned In Flag.  If you see a check mark in the Turned In column it simply means that the teacher has received the assignment.  Grades will not always be entered on the actual due date as there are times, especially during major assignments, that the grading of the assignment takes a long time.  However, grades will be entered in a timely manner.

For schools using Trimesters and Standards grading, generally only scores 1-4 will be used for whether a student meets or does not meet a standard.  The scale is as follows:
4 - Exceeds
3 - Meets
2 - Partially Meets
1 - Does Not Meet
-   Not Assessed this grading period

BAHS Grade Calculations:
  • Quarter Grades - these grades are derived from the groups and assignments in the teacher gradebook.  Groups will vary by teacher.

  • Semester Grades - Semester grades are tallied using Quarter grades and an exam grade.
Semester 1 = Q1 40% + Q2 40% + Midyear 20%
Semester 2 = Q3 40% + Q4 40% + Final 20%

  • Final Grades - The Final Grade is derived from the total of the 2 semester grades.
Semester 1 = 50%
Semester 2 = 50%
